Allergic Reaction

Sara had swollen cheeks and swollen lips along with light red bumps all over her back and chest after dinner this evening. We called the NHS 24 number (think of it as a health help line) and spoke to a nurse about it and she made an appointment for us at the hospital's after hours clinic. We took a taxi and after being buzzed in were seen right away by Lucas, a very kind nurse. The swelling had gone down a bit by this point, but we discovered a lot more red marks during the examination. Lucas checked her out and said she is fine, but gave us some medicine to give to Sara to help everything to go away. He said that even though she had eaten that food before she could have still had a reaction to it, though hopefully just a one time event. Or very possibly, and he thinks most likely, since she was sick Friday thru Sunday with temps over 100, mostly ranging between 101-102, it could be a reaction to the virus. It apparently happens sometimes when you get better. 


We really do love the health care system out here. We have always been seen quickly and have been taken care of. We love that everything is connected. The nurse already had the notes from the phone call to the nurse and he sent everything on to our GP (general practitioner) so that they would be able to do any follow up if necessary or to know this history if we have to take her in for allergies again during their office hours.

Even though she was having the allergic reaction Sara was still a happy, smiling, playful girl. Here she is chatting a little swollen, though I don't think it showed up in the picture that well:

 You can see her top lip turned out a little, her cheeks are a little puffier, and her left eye is just a little more closed than the other because of the swelling around it.
